“Still Kickin'” oil on canvas, 36′ x 48′

Still Kickin’

This image is my take on the 9,000 year old Ain Ghazal sculptures – this particular one is displayed at the Louvre in Paris. This was among dozens of similar antiquities unearthed in Jordan when land for a road was excavated, They are amazingly well preserved reed and plaster figures, carefully placed there over a period of about 100 years, probably for religious reasons. They all had faces like this, many had no arms. Some had two heads.

This armless image appealed to me because dealing with a sudden estrangement which I have absolutely no control over, I do still have my legs, meaning I have control over myself. But it is upsetting to be in this position. Upon a closer look, other images will reveal themselves which represent the perpetual urge we all have to make art out of our dreams and visions.
